Finding the right Coach...
The term “Coach” or "Business Coach" is not protected in Germany. The German Coaching Association DCV e.V. assumes that there are around 14,000 trained and professional coaches working in Germany and around three times as many self-proclaimed coaches without qualifications. So there are thousands of people who have a lot of confidence in themselves, after a weekend seminar or after some professional biography, whatever the outcome... The coaching market is therefore not transparent.
Nevertheless, choosing a professional coach who is right for you doesn't have to be a dice decision :-)
Tip
When selecting a suitable coach, you should proceed rationally + emotionally.
Rational, watch out for this:
-
Solid systemic coaching training
includes 150-200 hours of time plus supervision and peer group work.
Should be certified by a reputable coaching association
-
University education in psychology
in addition to coaching training, is expressly not a must, but increases the coach's range of competence as well as the chance of illnesses such as burnout, depression, etc. being recognized and, if necessary, being referred
-
Specialization of the coach in specific areas
also increases competence if necessary
-
Focus on strengths
Focus on achieving the client's immediate goals as fast as possible and being able to use the identified strengths permanently as a resource for overcoming challenges.
-
Type and, if applicable, similarity of professional experience
facilitates the working relationship between client and coach on an equal footing.
-
Ethical principles, clarity and transparency of the offer
enable the security of a confidential and professional working relationship.
The content procedure and costs are made transparent.
Emotional:
-
The coach has to be a good fit for the client
It makes sense to offer a non-binding initial consultation. You should see the chemistry as good, have a good feeling and be able to look forward to working together.
If not, keep looking!
